The latest AHDB forecast is that this season’s farm production will be 0.8% lower than last season.
The spring and summer saw processors struggling with yields 2% down on 2021 levels, which helped to stoke inflationary pressure.
With the latest forecast being adjusted up due to larger herd numbers, it is hoped that this more manageable yield, will mitigate some of the need for farmgate increases through the traditionally tight Autumn and Winter period.
