Farmgate prices for raw milk beginning to stabilise.

October saw the first month of price stabilisation in more than 12 months.
The few price increases that were announced, only bought processors into line with their peers.
At 48 to 50p per litre, prices paid by many processors are significantly higher than the typical upper 20’s paid during the early summer of 2021.
Many processors have already declared their November prices, and there is again very little movement.
Expectation is that prices may still rise slightly, as raw milk availability tightens during the Autumn and Winter, but not to the levels experienced during the last 12 months. High Fertilizer, Fuel and Energy Costs continue to be a concern, particularly in light of the long hot summer, where some regions have seen dairy farmers use winter feed to supplement poor grazing.
Also, many contracts will be up for renewal, at a time when costs are high.
